A Face Mask A Day with Julep

Whenever my girlfriends ask me how they can repair their skin, I always suggest two things – drink more water, and try a face mask that targets your needs. I am a huge face mask advocate, especially because it’s an easy way to treat your skin without stepping out of the house, or involves too much work. My favorite face mask is a gift I received on my birthday last October. Julep’s Night Shift Sleeping Mask is my go-to mask every night… and morning. According to Julep,

this is a reparative moisture mask that does the heavy lifting while you’re fast asleep so you wake up to a brighter, smoother, firmer complexion.

The Night Shift Sleeping Mask has been my savior this past winter. And if you have been a victim of dry or flaky skin, this is probably going to be something you want to try out. With the bitter cold and snow, this product has served as a face mask and a moisturizer, keeping my skin smooth and hydrated. The mask name suggests that this is something you wear at night while sleeping so that the product can work into your skin, but I absolutely love wearing this during the daytime as well. The product is a white, thick cream that applies effortlessly. It absorbs nicely into my skin and doesn’t sit on top of it like most thick moisturizers do. Although Spring is here and my skin won’t be as dry, this will be a product I use all year round.

EVENT ALERT: And if you’re already a Julep fan, here’s a link-up to meet Jane Park, founder of Julep. Come join the fun in New York on Wednesday 4/01 6-8pm. RSVP here.

Got a product you can’t live without? What’s your favorite face mask and moisturizer? Tell me in the comments section below!

Products from L-R: Hada Senka by Shiseido (lotion or toner), Blending Sponge, Capsule Wash-Off Mask, Femme Couture Highlighting Luminizer, Tony Moly Mascara, Etude House Sleeping Spoon Cream, Tony Moly Auto Lip Liner.

Hada Senka by Shiseido: I’ve tried Shiseido products in the past and have always loved them, so I was really happy to receive this lotion/toner in my bag. Hada Senka’s lotion works great as a moisturizer. It’s more runny than other thick moisturizers I am used to but works great under makeup since it is so hydrating. I have not tried this as a toner yet, but if you’re interested in picking up this 2-in-1 product, to use as a toner, pour a bit onto a cotton swab before applying it to your face. (Retail: $15.95)

Blending Sponge: I recently jumped on the beautyblender bandwagon late last year, so practically squealed when I saw this in my bag. If you have never tried applying concealer or foundation on with a sponge before, you must try it! To use, wet the sponge and ring out the excess water. Place a bit of your liquid makeup product on your hand and dab it on the blender. Apply the product in a quick-patting motion for a flawless finish. (Retail: $15.95)

Capsule Wash-Off Mask: Anyone who knows me, knows that I loveee face masks. I have not had the time to try these wash-off masks yet but I am excited to try it out on my day off sometime next week. The mask claims that it is perfect for dealing with pores… I’ll update you all next week when I test it out. Oh, I received 2 capsules, so double the fun with this product! (Retail $2.50)

Femme Couture Highlighting Luminizer: I’m not one to brag, but my highlighting skills have definitely gotten wayyy better lately. Sidenote: My boyfriend likes to throw actual highlighters at me when I’m doing this process in the morning. When done right, highlighting gives your face a natural and healthy glow. The packaging says that this product is a cream but it’s not thick like you would think. The product is runny and can get a bit messy if you squeeze too much so be careful! A little goes a long way. This can be used alone or mixed in with foundation. (Retail: $11.50)

Tony Moly Mascara: Just in time! I needed a new mascara so badly. So glad this came in right when I needed it. Want longer looking lashes? I’m siding with this one. (Retail: $6.50)

Etude House Sleeping Spoon Cream: I love going to bed packing on my creams, so am always excited to rotate new products at night. This spoon cream claims to brighten and moisturizer the skin around the clock. (Retail: $3.95)

Tony Moly Auto Lip Liner: Ladies! This is such a beautiful rose color! It’s a shade darker than the natural color of my lips so it’s perfect for me. I am going to be using this product as a lipstick color as well since the liner has more of a creamy texture. (Retail: $7.25)

Overall, I am so stoked to try all of the products in my Head to Toe Pink bag. I was not expecting to be blown away by all the products, but I truly am. The deal is even better. It is nearly an $80 value bag for just $26. If you want this bag, it is available through March 15th at Beauteque. If you try it out, let me know what you think! xo

A Dead Sea Mud Mask To Make Your Skin Feel Alive

Three beauty products I cherish the most are my mascaras, highlighters, and facial masks. I’m a firm believer that if you take care of your skin, you won’t need to slather on extra makeup. I go through different facial masks every week depending on how my skin is looking and feeling.

I started using InstaNatural’s Dead Sea Mud Mask this week. This 16 oz. jar contains organic shea butter, jojoba oil, organic aloe vera and other minerals that help soothe dry and irritated skin. The winter has been really harsh on my skin, so I’ve been moisturizing every night, but it’s beneficial to also follow up with a mud mask.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS: There is a ton of product in a 16 oz jar! You’re only supposed to use this mask once a week so there is probably enough here to last for at least 8-10 months. InstaNatural also recommends that this product only be used once a week due to the high concentration of minerals (magnesium, sodium, and bromine). Excessive use may lead to drying out or irritating the skin.

You do not need too much of this product, less is more applies here since it will take forever to dry if you use too much. The texture is a bit strange. A cross between slimy and gooey. It doesn’t smell bad and applies pretty much the same to any other facial masks. However, the drying process is so uncomfortable and itchy! I don’t recommend this product for anyone with sensitive skin. After 15 minutes, my t-zone completely dried up (see before and after photos). According to InstaNatural,

This is due to the mud mask hardening while working to extract toxins and impurities from the skin. The mud mask may leave your face feeling flushed or red after removing the impurities; however this should dissipate over time. For sensitive skin, you do not have to wait until the mask completely dries before removing it.

I love that the mask is easy to remove with warm water. A lot of other masks tend to lather a bit too much making the removal process longer. Another bonus is that I can feel tiny sand-like crystals when I removed it – great for exfoliating! I didn’t notice any redness after removal, but someone with more sensitive skin may have this reaction.

The Dead Sea Mud Mask can be used on the body as well for a full-body detoxifier. It can also be used as a spot treatment on blemishes to help remove excess oil.

To pick up a bottle of this natural Dead Sea Mud Mask – go to the InstaNatural website or Amazon today. Prices vary, depending upon where you shop. The mask is $25.77 (Retail) and $24.97 (Amazon).

Bye Bye Breakouts: Using Tea Tree Face Mask

No matter what day of the week it is, I love setting aside some time for a good face mask. I find them so relaxing and calming, especially after a long day at work. I have many favorites and am always trying new ones on the market, but the one I always come back to is the The Body Shop’s Tea Tree Face Mask. I was first introduced to The Body Shop’s Tea Tree line back in the summer of 2014. At the time, I was dealing with random breakouts and wanted to minimize the issue as much as possible. An associate there (with mighty glowing skin) recommended the line to me and I’ve been hooked ever since. Hooked, meaning I own every product in the Tea Tree line. Yeah, never turn down advice from someone with amazing skin.

This is my go-to mask. After applying it all over my face, my skin feels so refreshed from the tingling and cooling sensation that it delivers. You’re supposed to remove it after 15 minutes, but I like to keep it on for an extra 5 minutes, just because. After removing the mask with warm water, my skin looks plumper, and feels extra smooth to the touch. The ‘plump’ look is due to an ingredient called Cyclopentasiloxane. Used mainly in beauty and hair care products, it’s a chemical that smoothes the skin by locking in the moisture. I feel like I’m saying hello to gorgeous skin, and waving a big fat goodbye to breakouts… you know, the breakouts that I’m currently keeping at bay with this face mask.
