February has been a very busy month for me. With work, looking for a new apartment, and blogging, my Birchbox this month really made my February special. Seriously, it’s the little things – in every literal sense of the word ‘little’ ’cause it’s just samples. Still, I love my Birchbox! If you don’t already know, Birchbox is a monthly subscription box that is curated from your personal beauty profile. Each month, you receive 4-5 samples of deluxe size beauty products. This month, instead of letting Birchbox surprise me, I decided to go with the guest editor box made by Rent The Runway. Here are the products I received: Continue reading
I Sort of Beauty is all about trying new products, but it is also all about experiencing different beauty and skincare routines. I have never had a microdermabrasion facial before, and have heard some terrible experiences that are enough to scare me away from it. If you’re not familiar with what this is, a microdermabrasion facial is a procedure that uses tiny exfoliating crystals to remove the outer layer of your skin. It is used to exfoliate the skin for a softer and brighter look. According to WebMD, “it works best on problems such as dull skin, brown spots, and age spots.”
For the first time in my life, I tried this regimen using Derma E’s Microdermabrasion Scrub. I’ve had it sitting on my drawer for about a month now and finally mustered up the courage to use it. The product claims to:
“…help diminish the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and acne scars, and absorb excess skin oils. Enriched with natural astringents Lime and Lemon Peel plus antioxidants Grapeseed and Vitamin E, this pro-grade treatment retexturizes skin, leaving it soft, smooth and younger-looking. May also be used on your hands, elbows, knees, heels or any part of the body to promote soft, smooth and healthy skin.”
Directions: Apply a small amount of product to dampened skin and gently massage in circular motions for 1 minute and then rinse with warm water. Use less pressure if you have sensitive skin!
FIRST IMPRESSIONS: The glass jar contains a generous amount of product, which will hopefully last for a good amount of time because you really just need a dime-sized amount for each use. The crystal blend is very fine, so it feels like I’m rubbing wet sand all over my face. After a one minute rub-down, my skin looks brighter. What I love most about this product is how fine the crystals are. It really sloughs off dead skin and my leaves my face looks glowing and dewy. The crystals also absorb the excess oils on my face, but did not dry out or tighten my skin – a definite plus! The horror stories I mentioned earlier are people who suffered from redness and irritation after getting a microdermabrasion facial. So if you’re worried about that, and are willing to try out a scrub for the first time to help buff away dull skin surface cells, and diminish acne scars, I’d definitely check this one out. Available on Derma E for $32.50, or your can purchase it on Ulta (where the reviews are overwhelmingly positive) for $23.99.

We’ve all heard of the big name brands – Clinique, Estee Lauder, Mac, Sephora… you name it. But what about KISS and Broadway Nails, SPAdet, or Lauren Napier? Do any of the following sound familiar: Happy Hands: The Original UV Nail Glove, Bodyography, Derma E, Sweet Anthem Perfumes, and AcnEase. If not, don’t worry, I was clueless to these as well. That is, until yesterday evening, when I attended BeautyPress’ Spotlight Day event at Midtown Loft & Terrace, where all of these exhibitors were present. I admit I’m still learning about the beauty industry, but what was great about this event was being able to meet the faces behind the brands and talk to them directly about their products. Read More…
