Gosh, it’s already March. Time sure flies when you’re having fun, and so far, 2015 has been pretty damn good. I’m excelling professionally and personally, and creativity has a lot to do with my growth. One of the things I am doing more in 2015 is switching up my beauty routine. It sounds so simple, but a new lipstick, or a new mascara can do a lot for one’s self esteem. That’s why I love receiving a Birchbox every month. It fuels my creativity, and in many ways, boosts my perspective and self esteem. Every month, Birchbox has a theme, and this month’s theme is ‘Creativity’. I feel most creative when I open up I Sort of Beauty on my computer. I am able to write down anything I want and share it with you all. If you don’t already know, Birchbox is a monthly subscription box that is curated from your personal beauty profile. Each month, you receive 4-5 samples of deluxe size beauty products. Here are the products I received:
February has been a very busy month for me. With work, looking for a new apartment, and blogging, my Birchbox this month really made my February special. Seriously, it’s the little things – in every literal sense of the word ‘little’ ’cause it’s just samples. Still, I love my Birchbox! If you don’t already know, Birchbox is a monthly subscription box that is curated from your personal beauty profile. Each month, you receive 4-5 samples of deluxe size beauty products. This month, instead of letting Birchbox surprise me, I decided to go with the guest editor box made by Rent The Runway. Here are the products I received: Continue reading
My Birchbox finally came this month! After about 2 weeks of dealing with Birchbox support about my missing box for January, it finally arrived in the mail a couple of days ago. Was it worth the wait and hype? First off, if you don’t already know, Birchbox is a monthly subscription box that is curated from your personal beauty profile. Each month, you receive 4-5 samples of deluxe size beauty products. Each month, there is a theme and this month’s theme is “Let’s Do This!” Here are the products I received:
From left to right: Juliette Has a Gun Not a Perfume, Dr. Jart+ Premium Beauty Balm SPF 45+, Sumita Color Contrast Eyeliner in New Delhi Chai, Essentiel Elements Wake Up Rosemary Body Lotion, and Number 4 Hair Care Non-Aerosol Hairspray.
Juliette Has a Gun Not a Perfume: I don’t normally wear perfumes (and have actually requested Birchbox to stop sending me them) but I don’t think I mind this scent. It’s made out a single element called Cetalox, normally used in perfumery as a back note. The scent is very light, simple, and elegant. Great scent for wearing to the office or just a casual day out. Retail: $90
Dr. Jart+ Premium Beauty Balm SPF 45+: I loveee Dr. Jart products! This is an all-in-one product that provides light coverage, primer, moisturizer, sunscreen, and treatment serum. I’ve already started using this and have to say it really cuts down on my time getting ready in the morning. Love, love, love! Retail: $39
Sumita Color Contrast Eyeliner in New Delhi Chai: I don’t normally wear color eyeliners, only black and brown. However, I don’t mind a little color from time to time to spice up my look. This light shade of gold is perfect for a night out. Goes on smooth, easy to apply. It is more of a dress-up, night-out on the town color for me, so the sample will last me awhile. Retail: $11
Essentiel Elements Wake Up Rosemary Body Lotion: Can we talk about the scent, please?! The blend of rosemary and mint is divine and wakes me up every time I smell it. Not to mention, it’s also hydrating and heals my dry skin. I think I found my new favorite body lotion. Retail: $19
Number 4 Hair Care Non-Aerosol Hairspray: Number 4 products have been a hit or miss with me. I didn’t like their shampoo so much since it smelled like men’s cologne and made me feel quite nauseous. Thankfully, the hairspray doesn’t smell like that at all. The scent reminds me of watermelon candy, but it’s actually fruit and flower extracts. I’m running out of hairspray, so this is next in rotation. Retail: $30
I’m actually very impressed with this month’s box. What I love about Birchbox is that I am able to discover and try new products without having to break the bank. With my January box, I feel like I am ready to tackle the new year with a more adventurous beauty profile. I think I’ll be stepping out of my comfort zone this year.
Let’s do this!

When most people think about the new year, they probably think “new year, new me” but I think “new year, new, products!” I finished a couple of favorites in 2014, and I can’t wait to either make repurchases, or move on to other products. Here’s what I finished in 2014.
- Lindi Face Serum
- Dr. Brandt Pores No More
- Juice Beauty Green Apple Peel
- Dr. Brandt Face Cream
- Shiseido Ultimune Power Infusing Concentrate
- Biodara Face Serum and Créme De Clay Purifying Mask
Dr. Brandt Pores No More: Hands down, one of the best blackhead extractor masks I have ever used. I love that the mask dries into a darker blue color when it’s done and ready to be removed. I need to get this again for 2015!
Juice Beauty Green Apple Peel: 2014 was all about natural products for me. I love that this peel is made of organic, fruit-derived hydroxy acids, raw sugar cane, and antioxidant-rich vitamins—A, C, and E. Will definitely purchase the full size product.
Dr. Brandt Face Cream: Eh. I liked it, but didn’t love using it. I preferred using other moisturizers, so will not be seeing this product in 2015.
Shiseido Ultimune Power Infusing Concentrate: I recently got another one. Why? Because it worked so damn well I felt like I didn’t need any makeup. Love, love, love this stuff! Saying hello to soft, bouncy skin in 2015.
Biodara Face Serum and Créme De Clay Purifying Mask: I wrote about Biodara recently last year. I took the products with me on my trip to Jamaica in October. It was the perfect set to pamper myself with while vacationing. Will I repurchase? I already have!
- Amika: Perk Up Dry Shampoo
- Hello Body Cream
- MAKE Dual Phase Eye Makeup Remover
- Supergoop! Forever Young Hand Cream
- Imperial Repair Hand Therapy
- Supergoop! CC Cream
Amika: Perk Up Dry Shampoo: This was my first love (for dry shampoo, that is). I have never used dry shampoo before. I always thought that if I washed my hair every other day or every 2-3 days, I didn’t need dry shampoo. But after using Amika, I realized that there are so many benefits to using dry shampoo. I use it the day after I shower to keep my hair nice and voluminous.
Hello Body Cream: I didn’t love this product, but I didn’t hate it either. It smelled delicious and went on smoothly, but I don’t think it’s hydrating enough. Will not see this product in 2015.
MAKE Dual Phase Eye Makeup Remover: I only found one makeup remover that I loved in 2014, and this product is not it. The remover is not tough enough for eye makeup removal. I won’t be seeing this product in 2015 either.
Supergoop! Forever Young Hand Cream: I don’t use enough hand creams, but after discovering Supergoop! I’m addicted.
Imperial Repair Hand Therapy: I loved the smell of this hand cream. There wasn’t enough in this sample, I will need to repurchase for 2015!
Supergoop! CC Cream: I have been seeing and hearing the rave about CC creams, but I don’t think this was the best CC cream for me. Will keep hunting for a CC cream to add to my beauty arsenal in 2015.
What products did you finish in 2014? What products will you be taking with you in 2015? Tell me in the comments section below, xo -Linda
Last Birchbox for 2014! I’ve been a Birchbox subscriber since July and enjoy the perks of being a Birchblogger. Every month I get to sample 5-6 different products for $10 that I’ve never tried before. It’s a great way to switch up my beauty routine without having to break the bank. Here’s what I got in my box this month.
Embryolisse Lait Creme Concentrate: $28.00 full size/$1.87 sample value
I love the smell of this moisturizer! It also doubles as a makeup remover but the sample is tiny so I doubt I’ll be using it for that. Going straight into my work bag.
No. 4 L’eau de Mare Hydrating Shampoo: $34.00 full size/$4.00 sample value
No. 4 L’eau de Mare Hydrating Conditioner: $36.00 full size/$1.06 sample value
I’ve received a No. 4 hair detangling/styling product before and loved it. Actually looking forward to trying out their shampoo and conditioner.
Rusk Texture Spray: $18.00 full size/$3.37 sample value
I love when I get items in my box that I need. I finished my other hairspray and this one came right on time. I’ve seen pretty good reviews on this product so am excited to try it out.
Manna Kadar Lip Locked in Lucky: $24.00 full size/$0.20 sample value
This was my sample choice this month, and I’m disappointed at how tiny the sample size is. It’s a mix between a gloss and a stain, which is something I’ve never tried before. I love the color and am surprised at the moisturizing and staying power. Wish the sample was a bit bigger.
Lord and Berry Paillettes Eyeliner: $18.00 full size/$4.50 sample value
Not really a glitter kind of gal, but will try this on a date night.
REVIEW: Overall, I am pretty happy with my box. I paid about $10 for the box and received $15 worth of products. Birchbox partnered with GAP this month, so they included a $10 giftcard in my box, making my box worth $25. I will also earn $6 in points to use in the Birchbox shop since I will review each product ($1 back per product review). It’s a great deal and I’m totally stoked to try out my samples.
Do you subscribe to Birchbox? What did you think about your box this month?
Happy box, happy blogger. xo
