A Note to Bloggers: Beware of Scammers

For me, blogging is just a hobby. I don’t get paid to do it. I do it on my own time, whenever I want. But for most of the people that I have come across, blogging is a job. It’s a full-time commitment that pays the bills and puts food on the table. Blogging can easily become a job through product review, advertising, and endorsements. This week, a “company” wanted to collaborate with me on I Sort of Beauty, and it didn’t take long for me to realize that it was a fake solicitor.

I’m naming the company because I would hope that this does not happen to anyone else. Two weeks ago, Tops Wedding reached out to me on email to ask me to collaborate with them. Here’s how it went:

Wintertime Nails: Black Starry Night

Thanks to a better diet, my nails have been getting stronger and longer lately. I’m a firm believer that if you make one good change, it will affect your whole body in some way. I gradually started drinking at least 4 bottles of water a day (80 fl. ounces) and adding more greens to my diet. Oh, and multivitamins, I’m taking two of those a day as well. With all of the positive additions to my diet, my nails (skin and hair too) have really improved in appearance.

I wanted to share with you a simple nail design that I created using LAQA & Co.’s Black nail polish and One Direction’s Nail Varnish in Diana. I love dark nail colors in the wintertime, especially with some glam so I thought these two colors worked nicely together. The LAQA & Co. nail polish also has tiny bits of gold flakes so it really pops with the silver.

Get That Glow With Valentia Organic Rosehip Oil

I have never really incorporated oil into my skincare regimen so I was a bit skeptical to try out Valentia Organic Rosehip Oil for the first time. The serum is a blend of Vitamin C, Vitamin A, and fatty acids. Valentia claims that the oil,

“will restore your skin’s natural balance so as to improve its overall look and texture. Giving you that healthy, glowing and fresh-looking skin you can flaunt.”

This is definitely a product that I swear by! I have been using it for about a month now and my skin is feeling and looking much smoother and softer. I love putting this on right after the shower to lock in all the moisture and keep my face glowing.

CaptureAt first, I was afraid that it would make my skin oily (I have normal skin) or that I would just look greasy. However, I found that it absorbs really well into my skin and leaves it looking radiant. Right now, my skin is blemish-free so I enjoy using this product as a part of my daily regimen to keep my skin looking healthy. I do recommend that if you have issues with acne, to go light on the product. Vitamin C can cause breakouts because it works to draw toxins from your skin. After repeated use, it is supposed to make the blemishes disappear, but I wouldn’t use too much of it at first, just to be safe. I also love that the product can be dispensed with a dropper instead of a pump or a jar. The serum is super easy to work with and the dropper makes it mess-free.

Bonus? It can also be used on hair and nails!

If your face gets a bit dry in the winter time, or you’re looking for a product to keep your face hydrated at night, and glowing during the day, I recommend giving this bad boy a try. Retails for $13.99 on Amazon.

Holiday Party Time!

I’ve been to three holiday parties so far, and there are a couple more lined up until the new year. This week was a bit crazy with my boyfriend’s work holiday party and mine, but I think it turned out well. We’ve been coming home past midnight every night and falling asleep between 1 and 2 in the morning. The schedule hasn’t been pleasant for my skin but I’ve been moisturizing and keeping to a strict routine every night/ early morning. I wanted to share some holiday photos with you and tell you about the products I used to create an effortless and “radiant” look, as I was told. By the way, it felt good to wear makeup again after 20 days!

I decided to go with a very simple look for the holiday parties this week. They were all professional so I didn’t want to overdo my look.

photo 1 (3)Face: ELF foundation around my face (half a drop) and Benefit’s Fake Up in light to conceal my under eyes. To contour, I used Benefit’s bronzing powder in Hoola. Blush in Laura Geller’s Blush-n-Brighten in Grapefruit for nice dewey cheeks, and Benefit’s Watt’s Up and Mirabella’s Shimmer Rose to highlight. Eyes: Tat2u’s mascara in Black and Bentonite Clay eyeshadow from MAKE’s Calypso Palette all over my lid. For brows, I used Billion Dollar Brows Universal Pencil. For the lips, I wanted to go with a just-bitten look, I used ELF’s moisturizing lipstick in Ripe Rose. Essie Polish in Marshmallow on nails.

LAQA & Co. Black Tuxedo Manicure

Is anyone else fawning over LAQA & Co. this season? I fell in love with their lip lubes earlier last month, but I’m currently having an affair with their nail polish collection. Their polishes glide super smooth, and the variety of colors are so vibrant and refreshing. I own a couple of different colors, but my favorite is the Tuxedo Manicure Duo in Black Matte and Black Gloss. Here’s a simple manicure look I did using their Matte Black polish and One Direction’s glitter topping in ‘Star’.
