Gosh, it’s already March. Time sure flies when you’re having fun, and so far, 2015 has been pretty damn good. I’m excelling professionally and personally, and creativity has a lot to do with my growth. One of the things I am doing more in 2015 is switching up my beauty routine. It sounds so simple, but a new lipstick, or a new mascara can do a lot for one’s self esteem. That’s why I love receiving a Birchbox every month. It fuels my creativity, and in many ways, boosts my perspective and self esteem. Every month, Birchbox has a theme, and this month’s theme is ‘Creativity’. I feel most creative when I open up I Sort of Beauty on my computer. I am able to write down anything I want and share it with you all. If you don’t already know, Birchbox is a monthly subscription box that is curated from your personal beauty profile. Each month, you receive 4-5 samples of deluxe size beauty products. Here are the products I received:
For me, blogging is just a hobby. I don’t get paid to do it. I do it on my own time, whenever I want. But for most of the people that I have come across, blogging is a job. It’s a full-time commitment that pays the bills and puts food on the table. Blogging can easily become a job through product review, advertising, and endorsements. This week, a “company” wanted to collaborate with me on I Sort of Beauty, and it didn’t take long for me to realize that it was a fake solicitor.
I’m naming the company because I would hope that this does not happen to anyone else. Two weeks ago, Tops Wedding reached out to me on email to ask me to collaborate with them. Here’s how it went:
February has been a very busy month for me. With work, looking for a new apartment, and blogging, my Birchbox this month really made my February special. Seriously, it’s the little things – in every literal sense of the word ‘little’ ’cause it’s just samples. Still, I love my Birchbox! If you don’t already know, Birchbox is a monthly subscription box that is curated from your personal beauty profile. Each month, you receive 4-5 samples of deluxe size beauty products. This month, instead of letting Birchbox surprise me, I decided to go with the guest editor box made by Rent The Runway. Here are the products I received: Continue reading
My Birchbox finally came this month! After about 2 weeks of dealing with Birchbox support about my missing box for January, it finally arrived in the mail a couple of days ago. Was it worth the wait and hype? First off, if you don’t already know, Birchbox is a monthly subscription box that is curated from your personal beauty profile. Each month, you receive 4-5 samples of deluxe size beauty products. Each month, there is a theme and this month’s theme is “Let’s Do This!” Here are the products I received:
From left to right: Juliette Has a Gun Not a Perfume, Dr. Jart+ Premium Beauty Balm SPF 45+, Sumita Color Contrast Eyeliner in New Delhi Chai, Essentiel Elements Wake Up Rosemary Body Lotion, and Number 4 Hair Care Non-Aerosol Hairspray.
Juliette Has a Gun Not a Perfume: I don’t normally wear perfumes (and have actually requested Birchbox to stop sending me them) but I don’t think I mind this scent. It’s made out a single element called Cetalox, normally used in perfumery as a back note. The scent is very light, simple, and elegant. Great scent for wearing to the office or just a casual day out. Retail: $90
Dr. Jart+ Premium Beauty Balm SPF 45+: I loveee Dr. Jart products! This is an all-in-one product that provides light coverage, primer, moisturizer, sunscreen, and treatment serum. I’ve already started using this and have to say it really cuts down on my time getting ready in the morning. Love, love, love! Retail: $39
Sumita Color Contrast Eyeliner in New Delhi Chai: I don’t normally wear color eyeliners, only black and brown. However, I don’t mind a little color from time to time to spice up my look. This light shade of gold is perfect for a night out. Goes on smooth, easy to apply. It is more of a dress-up, night-out on the town color for me, so the sample will last me awhile. Retail: $11
Essentiel Elements Wake Up Rosemary Body Lotion: Can we talk about the scent, please?! The blend of rosemary and mint is divine and wakes me up every time I smell it. Not to mention, it’s also hydrating and heals my dry skin. I think I found my new favorite body lotion. Retail: $19
Number 4 Hair Care Non-Aerosol Hairspray: Number 4 products have been a hit or miss with me. I didn’t like their shampoo so much since it smelled like men’s cologne and made me feel quite nauseous. Thankfully, the hairspray doesn’t smell like that at all. The scent reminds me of watermelon candy, but it’s actually fruit and flower extracts. I’m running out of hairspray, so this is next in rotation. Retail: $30
I’m actually very impressed with this month’s box. What I love about Birchbox is that I am able to discover and try new products without having to break the bank. With my January box, I feel like I am ready to tackle the new year with a more adventurous beauty profile. I think I’ll be stepping out of my comfort zone this year.
Let’s do this!

I have had many ‘firsts’ here on I Sort of Beauty, but I think this one tops them all (so far). I tried InstaNatural’s Superior Hydration Argan Oil Hair for the first time and was completely blown away by the impressive results. I have relatively healthy hair (with the exception of some split ends and occasional dullness), but have always wanted sleek, bouncy and shiny hair – similar to those women in the Garnier Fructis and Herbal Essence commercials. This hair mask comes pretty damn close to that.
InstaNatural’s Argan Oil Hair Mask is a deep conditioning treatment designed to transform dry and damaged strands into soft, shiny, healthy hair. The restorative ingredients including Argan Oil, Japanese Green Tea, Amino Acid Complex, Coconut Oil, Shea Butter, Jojoba Oil, Avocado Oil & Vitamin B5. The blend,
“work together to penetrate hair deep down and deliver ultimate nourishment and hydration to enhance texture and shine. This intensive blend full of organic ingredients also serves to strengthen hair to defend against heat damage and other external aggressors.”
FIRST IMPRESSION: I love the smell of this product! It smells like coconut oil and shea butter, a nice scent but not overpowering at all. After using my Garnier Fructis shampoo, I followed up with this hair mask, and left it in for about 15 minutes. After washing it off, I found that my hair was much smoother. After my hair dried, it was voluminous and bouncy. I always air dry my hair but it never dries looking full. It’s been my fourth day since using the hair mask, and my hair is still very voluminous even without using dry shampoo. *Pro-tip: Use dry shampoo the day after you wash your hair to avoid flat hair!* There’s a reason why this product is currently #5 on Amazon’s list of top conditioners. Overall, I love using it and am looking forward to using it once a week as part of my haircare regimen.
Have you tried this product or any other hair masks before? How did it work for you? Tell me in the comments section below.
