Yesterday was the first day of Spring, but it sure didn’t feel like it. Millions of Americans were hit with more snow and frigid temperatures. Here in New York, we got 5 inches! Today, the sun was shinning and pretty much melted all the snow from yesterday – let’s hope that’s the last time we see snow until next winter.
After all this cold weather, I’m ready to break out my tank tops, and shorts. I can’t wait to get my natural tan from sunbathing (with SPF, of course). But until the sun starts beaming, I decided to try out a self tanner for the first time. Using a self tanner for the first time should scare anyone, seriously. Have you ever seen women who practically look orange? Yeah, it may work for some, but it’s not the look I’m going for. After reading rave reviews about Cocoa Brown 1 Hour Tan by Marissa Carter, I decided to give it a try. According to the site, the product is
revolutionary’ for the tanning market. Its first-of-a-kind formula combines hi-tech accelerating agents which are activated upon contact with the skin and they speed up the tans absorption and development. This means the tan only needs to be left on the skin for 1 HOUR and can rinsed off after that.
You read that right. You can look glowingly hot in just one hour. That was more than enough of an incentive for me to dive in.
FIRST IMPRESSION: When you first apply the product, make sure not to squeeze so hard. The mousse sprayed all over the place at the first little squeeze. I used the mitt for an even and mess-free application. It goes on very smoothly and easily. It’s a sandy brown color, which is nice because I can focus on the areas that look like it needs more application – perfect for preventing streaky lines or blotchy tanning. About 30 minutes after applying, I noticed that there was a golden brown hue on my right leg (I only applied on one leg). I also love that it smells heavenly, almost like cake. I have never tried self tanners before, but have certainly gotten a wiff from one or two that smell horrendous. The tell-tale fake tan smell comes from an ingredient called Dihydroxyacetone (DHA). DHA is the active tanning ingredient in all self tanners that give you that sun-kissed glow. It works by reacting with the surface layers of the skin to change its color.
After one hour, I got straight into the shower as directed. The excess product came right off. After drying up, I noticed a remarkable difference between my left and right leg. I was left with a subtle golden, natural looking glow.
